Giovanni Cenna

I'm a practitioner of traditional Western astrology, based in Los Angeles. I don't practice astrology as entertainment or superstition, and I'm not interested in making you dependent on predictions.

I practice it as a psychotechnology: a disciplined symbolic art that helps train attention, clarify patterns, and restore orientation when life feels noisy, repetitive, or uncertain.

Most people don't need more information. They need a way to see what matters. That's what this work is for.

"There are seasons when you can feel something shifting, but you can't name it. Seasons when you're doing everything 'right,' but the same pattern keeps repeating. Seasons when the problem isn't lack of will — it's lack of orientation."

Astrology gives us a language for that.

Why I Practice Astrology

There are seasons when you can feel something shifting, but you can't name it. Seasons when you're doing everything "right," but the same pattern keeps repeating. Seasons when the problem isn't lack of will — it's lack of orientation.

Astrology gives us a language for that. Not in the shallow sense of personality categories, but in the deeper sense of structure: what organizes your life, what you protect, what you pursue, what you avoid, and what keeps coming back until it's understood.

People come to me when they want a clearer picture of what they're living through, language for a pattern they can feel but can't name, help making a decision without collapsing into panic or avoidance.

  • Orientation around timing: thresholds, openings, endings, pressures
  • A way to move forward with integrity instead of impulse
  • A clearer picture of what they're living through

My Approach

I work from the foundation of Hellenistic / traditional astrology: a coherent symbolic system with real internal constraints, not a free-association vibe.

  • I treat the chart as a whole — not a list of traits
  • I focus on meaningful structure: houses, aspects, dignities, timing
  • I'm interested in transformation — not fatalism, and not performance
  • I'm willing to be precise, and willing to say when something is uncertain

A consultation with me is not a lecture. It's a collaboration — a way of bringing your lived reality into contact with a symbolic map that can clarify your next step.

"Astrology is a map, not a mandate. It's participatory, not passive. It aims at clarity, not certainty."

Signification, Not Superstition

A lot of modern skepticism assumes astrology claims: "planets cause events." Historically, that's not the only model. In Neoplatonic thought — especially in Plotinus — there's a different move: the heavens can be understood as signifying patterns rather than mechanically forcing them.

In other words, astrology can be read as a meaningful order that corresponds with life, without needing to pretend it's physics. That distinction matters because it protects the practice from two distortions.

  • Naive literalism: "the planets made me do it"
  • Cynical dismissal: "if it's not physics, it's nothing"

Astrology lives in the domain of meaning-making — where decisions, identity, love, vocation, grief, and courage actually happen.
